Susan holds a Bachelor of Social Science, Master of Social Work and Master of Clinical Family Therapy. She works with individuals, couples and families across the lifespan, with particular expertise in high-conflict families, family life cycle change and supporting the transition to parenthood.
As a private practitioner with the Woodwalk Psychology Collective, Susan’s work also includes appointment by the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia as a Panel Family Consultant (Court Child Expert), providing family assessments for the Court. She lectures casually in La Trobe University’s Master of Clinical Family Therapy program at The Bouverie Centre and also works in public mental health as a Senior Perinatal Mental Health Clinician, supporting couples, parents and their infants. Susan is also a COPE (Centre of Perinatal Excellence) verified practitioner.
Her therapeutic approach is grounded in attachment, Polyvagal and Bowen theory, together with trauma-informed practice. She helps clients understand the interactional and transgenerational patterns learned within their families that can contribute to feelings of being stuck or distressed.
Through therapy, clients can develop greater insight and new communication skills that support connection and closeness as they navigate family challenges, relationships and transitions throughout the family life cycle.
“Communication is to relationships what breath is to life”, Virginia Satir.
